Caleb Wyatt who was ‘Head of Lighting’ for the Bowl of Brooklands and The New Plymouth Opera House trained and mentored Michael over the next two decades, until Caleb’s retirement in the mid 1990’s. In 1976 The Francis Reid master class further increased Michael’s knowledge and enthusiasm for lighting. His first ‘Head of Lighting’ opportunity came from Dorne Arthur who asked and encouraged Michael to light her play, ‘Rocking Cave’, at New Plymouth Repertory Theatre in 1978.   From 1974 to the establishment of Theatre Lamp and Lighting Supplies, Michael worked on numerous shows at New Plymouth Opera House, Bowl of Brooklands, Repertory Theatre, Little Theatre and numerous other venues. Shows have included Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Me and My Girl, Les Miserables, Chess, Split Ends and Crowed house.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”2807″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Michael started Theatre Lamp & Lighting Supplies in 1990 supplying spare lamps to local theatres, then branching out to stock colour medium. Rapidly moving onto the hire market with the first purchase of a Theatrelight 24 channel lighting desk, two dimmer packs and six 1200w Selecon Fresnel’s. Working from the garage and his spare room, this quickly became a tight squeeze. Upon being made redundant in 1991, Michael extended the garage and began working full time to grow his lighting hire company, doing anything to ensure his business survived. A rapidly growing hire stock required a further garage extension in 1995. In 1998 Michael made the decision to move to a 300sqm workshop in central New Plymouth where TLL Events currently operates. Hire stock now includes Fresnels, PC’s, Profiles, hundreds of Par 64’s, Loadstar motors, truss, Avolites and Theatrelight Lighting desks, dimmers, cabling, staging and drapes. In 2005, Michael began supplying sound equipment with RCF Speakers and Shure Microphones. Sound Hire Stock now includes numerous Shure and Sennheiser microphones, Meyer speakers, Mackie speakers, a Line Array System and several Sound Consoles including multiple digital Yamaha Desks.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”2827″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Staff numbers and equipment levels continued to increase and in 2009 Theatre Lamp & Lighting Supplies became a Limited Liability company still owned solely by Michael Keat. Further expansion included display panels for conference trade shows, tables, chairs, dance floors and video projection equipment, as well as room theming for weddings, balls and corporate functions, encompassing everything you need for a successful event. The name ‘Theatre Lamp and Lighting Supplies’ no longer accurately represented our full capability and became a limiting factor. In 2013 it was decided that the name should be changed. Theatre Lamp and Lighting Supplies had become a complete Event company being able to supply all event needs, giving the customer a one stop shop for an event. After much deliberation it was decided to maintain some of the business’ original identity and we are now called TLL Events.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
